D6700
The British Rail Class 37 is a diesel-electric locomotive, also known as the English Electric Type 3 and was part of the British Rail Modernisation Plan started in December 1954. D6700 was the first of its Class to be built at the English Electric Vulcan Foundry at Newton-le-Willows with works number EE/VF2863/D579 in 1960.
Under the TOPS classification it was renumbered 37119 in February 1974 but became 37350 in March 1988 when its traction motor gearing was changed. After its withdrawn from service in December 1999, it was donated by the English, Welsh & Scottish (EWS) Railway to the National Collection and went on display at the National Railway Museum (NRM), York in July 2001.
Following a 5 year agreement between the NRM and the Heavy Tractor Group (HTG) based at the Great Central Railway in Loughborough it re-endered traffic on the Midland’s heritage line, first appearing at the diesel gala in May 2022. The loan partnership between the NRM and Heavy Tractor Group saw D6700 receive final maintenance and re-painting at HTG’s industry partner, Loram UK, to allow it to go back into service.
